AGARTALA: The Tripura government is set to issue at least 10,000 job vacancies, the highest in over two decades, in various departments ahead of the Durga puja scheduled in October, a highly placed source in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) told TOI on Monday.
The largest number of government jobs so far was offered by the then Left Front in 1997 in the education department, where around 7,000 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teachers were recruited in different government schools.
Thereafter, the government provided jobs in a scattered manner, both during the Left Front and BJP rule. But 10,323 school teachers were dismissed from service after the Supreme Court found the recruitment process flawed, which still haunts political parties and the government.
However, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has decided to provide jobs to eligible candidates in different posts in various departments based on their performance in the interviews conducted during the last five years as part of his commitment towards the development of the state and welfare of its youth.
The register revealed that at least 13,661 job offers were issued during the BJP’s tenure between 2018 and 2024. The official said that in Group A in 2018-19 around 99 people got job offers, in 2019-20, four people, in 2020-21 around 40, in 2021-22 the number was 223, 147 people got jobs in 2022-23 and in 2023-24 the number was 28.
In group B, in 2018-19, only one job was offered, in 2019-20, three people, in 2020-21, about 4, in 2021-22, the number is 16, in 2022-23, 77 people received jobs, and in 2023-24, the number is 7. In group C, in 2018-19, about 986 people received job offers, in 2019-20, 965 people, in 2020-21, about 629, in 2021-22, the number is 2,699, in 2022-23, 5,044 people received jobs, and in 2023-24, the number is 1,966.
In group D, in 2018-19, about 100 people received job offers, in 2019-20 – 174 people, in 2020-21 – about 121, in 2021-22 the number was 134, while in 2022-23 116 people received jobs, and in 2023-24 the number is 78.
According to the official, Dr Saha has directed that the publication of pending job vacancies be expedited. There are some pending vacancies in the Tripura Police, Group D of the Tripura Joint Recruitment Board and Special Executives of the Home Department and he said, “We have received instructions from Chief Minister Dr Saha to publish at least 10,000 job vacancies soon after the panchayat elections to be held next month.”
