Ready to choose an HBCU for your online studies? Here’s where to start.
Consider your future goals
When it comes to online colleges, the best HBCU options are well known for their academic quality and student support services, but it’s still crucial to find a school that can help you achieve your future goals.
For example, do you want to have enough time to finish your degree while working or caring for your family? Look for a school with a part-time schedule. Or, opt for a school with an accelerated online program in your field of study if you’re interested in finishing as quickly as possible to jump-start your career.
Also, think about your plans after you graduate. Do you want to continue your education with a master’s degree or certificate? If so, finding a school with a progression of degree levels in your area of interest could help you continue your education without worrying about transferring credits or getting acclimated to a new school.
Understand your expenses and financing options
According National Center for Education Statistics According to data from the 2020-22 school year, in-state students paid, on average, $9,596 in tuition and fees for one year at a four-year public school. The average four-year private school charged $34,041 for one year of tuition and fees.

As an online college student, you may qualify for many of the same financial aid opportunities as on-campus students, including scholarships, loans, and grants. In fact, some schools have scholarships exclusively for distance learning students.
