UNHCR’s Global Consultations with Non-Governmental Organizations are an important and quite unique event that provides an important forum for discussion on global and regional issues and an opportunity to explore new collaborations on operational and advocacy issues.
The consultations have become a valued networking event for the community working on displacement and protection issues and offer interaction with all UNHCR senior management, including the High Commissioner.
More than 500 representatives from around the world are attending the consultations in Geneva and online, co-organised by ICVA and UNHCR.
Global Consultations 2024
Background
Previously, the consultations were held annually and brought together around 500 participants at a face-to-face event in Geneva. Since 2019, with regionalization and decentralization, UNHCR management decided that global and regional NGO consultations will be held every two years on an alternating basis.
In 2020, consultations were held virtually due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. In 2021, regional consultations were organized by the Regional Offices in the seven regions throughout the year. In 2022, global consultations were held in Geneva and online (hybrid format).
UNHCR Global Consultations with NGOs in 2024
In 2024, global consultations with NGOs will be held in Geneva from 11 to 13 June 2024. The themes for 2024 are solutions, inclusion and gender equality.
