6:00 HERE ON YOUR THURSDAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WAKING UP WITH US HERE ON YOUR JULY 11TH. I’M JACKIE PASCALE AND I’M ADRIANNA HARGROVE, WE’RE FILLING IN FOR AUDREY AUDREY BIESK. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE WEATHER WITH METEOROLOGIST DYLAN HUDLER, WHO’S ALSO FILLING IN FOR BRIAN SLOCUM. YES, WHAT A DAY TO FILL IN FOR DYLAN. FINALLY, JUST LIKE THE SLIGHTEST BREAK IN THE HUMIDITY. YES, I’LL TAKE IT. I’LL TAKE IT. BRIAN. BRIAN CAN COME BACK TOMORROW AND ENDURE ALL THAT HUMIDITY AND RAIN AND STORMS AND MALICIOUSNESS. YES, WE BLAME HIM. YES, YES, HE CAN HAVE IT. BUT I’M SURE GOING TO TAKE CREDIT FOR A REALLY GOOD FORECAST ON THURSDAY THAT I THINK ALL OF YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE. WE STARTED OFF WITH A BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE THIS MORNING. THIS IS IN GREENSBORO IN AYT SOME PINKS SOME BLUES. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING AND IT FEELS JUST AS NICE OUTSIDE, A COLD FRONT CAME THRU LAST NIGHT. AND SO IT’S REALLY DROPPED. OUR HUMIDITY. DEW POINTS HAVE DROPPED ABOUT 15 DEGREES ACROSS THE AREA. YESTERDAY WE HAD DEW POINTS IN THE 70S. THIS MORNING SOME OF US ARE HAVING DEW POINTS IN THE 50S. SO THIS IS PRETTY DRY AIR, ESPECIALLY BY JULY STANDARDS. THE DEW POINT IS DOWN TO 59. IN GREENSBORO RIGHT NOW. AND YOU CAN REALLY SEE WHERE THE HUMIDITY IS RIGHT NOW. THAT COLD FRONT THAT’S MOVING ACROSS THE STATE AND PUSHING IT ALONG THE COAST, THAT’S WHERE IT’S MOST HUMID. BUT HERE AT HOME, IT’S REALLY COMFORTABLE. BEHIND THE FRONT. WE ALSO HAVE A NORTHERN BREEZE, ESPECIALLY FELT OUT THIS MORNING AT ABOUT 5 TO 10 MPH. SO THAT JUST INCREASES THE COMFORT LEVEL FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. PLENTY OF SUNSHINE ON THURSDAY, HIGH IS IN THE 80S TO 90 DEGREES, SO IT’S STILL HOT, MAYBE HOT FOR SOME OF US, BUT WE DON’T HAVE A HEAT INDEX TO SPEAK OF WITHOUT THAT HIGH HUMIDITY. PLENTY OF SUNSHINE. WE’LL BE DRY TODAY. MAYBE A COUPLE ADDITIONAL CLOUDS LATER TONIGHT AFTER SUNSET, BUT OVERALL IT’S JUST A TEN OUT OF TEN DAY FOR EARLY JULY. SO THAT’S GOOD NEWS. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. GET OUT TODAY AND DO SOME THINGS. OF COURSE, WE’RE STILL WATCHING THE TROPICS. I’M NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT BARIL ANYMORE. THAT SYSTEM HAS PASSED AND IT’S BEEN ON ITS PATH SINCE. BUT OF COURSE, IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE AN ACTIVE SEASON. WE’RE WATCHING THIS AREA, THIS DISTURBANCE ON THE SOUTHEAST COAST, AND IT’S NOT GOING TO BECOME ANY NAMED STORM, BUT IT’S MOVING IN OUR DIRECTION AND IT’S GOING TO BRING INCREASING TROPICAL MOISTURE AND A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. TOMORROW. I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT ITS IMPACTS ON THE CAROLINAS. COMING SOON. ALL RIGHT. THANKS. DYLAN. NOW MOVING ON TO THE ACCIDENT IN WINSTON-SALEM. WALKERTOWN STREET IS CLOSED TO TRAFFIC THIS MORNING FROM NORTH MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR DRIVE TO URBAN STREET. UTILITY LINES ARE DOWN IN THE STREET AFTER THAT ACCIDENT, AND POLICE SAY THIS AREA WILL BE CLOSED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. OTHER THAN THAT, TRAFFIC FOR THE REST OF THE PIEDMONT TRIAD AREA SEEMS FINE. GOOD RIDE EVERYONE. HERE ON 603, A MAN IS IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION WITH AN AGGRAVATED ASSAULT IN TANGLEWOOD PARK. THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS DEPUTY PICKED UP DIEGO VIEIRA RAMIREZ, 18, AFTER A BRIEF CHASE LAST NIGHT. DEPUTY PICKED UP THE NATURE OF THE ASSAULT OR WHAT LED TO THE INCIDENT. THEY DID SAY THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. DIEGO IS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEJOBsNewsON TO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. DAVIDSON COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE WORKING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF A HOME FIRE IN THOMASVILLE. THE HOME BELONGED TO A HIGH POINT POLICE OFFICER AND HIS WIFE WHO IS A 911 DISPATCHER. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THE FAMILY WAS NOT HOME AT THE TIME BUT TWO OF THEIR PETS DIED IN THE FIRE. THE HIGH POINT POLICE DEPARTMENT IS RUNNING A GIFT CARD DRIVE FOR THE FAMILY. YOU CAN DONATE CARDS TO PLACES LIKE WALMART OR GROCERY STORES, JUST BETWEEN OURSELVES. WE ARE NOT LIKELY TO MEET THE NEED THAT IS ARISING. SO YES, IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT FOR THE COMMUNITY TO STEP UP AND PROVIDE SUPPORT DURING A TIME LIKE THIS, NOT ONLY TO HELP WITH THOSE BASIC NEEDS THAT THEY MAY HAVE, BUT TO ALSO GIVE THAT SHOW OF SUPPORT AND LET OUR EMERGENCIES IN GENERAL KNOW THAT THEY ARE SUPPORTED BY THEIR COMMUNITY. AND IF YOU WANT TO HELP, YOU CAN DROP OFF A GIFT CARD AT THE HIGH POINT POLICE DEPARTMENT ON WEST CHESTER DRIVE. MOUNT AIRY CITY SCHOOLS ARE BEING SUED BY THE MOTHER OF A FORMER STUDENT. SHE SAYS HER SON WAS BULLYED, BEATEN, AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED ON A SCHOOL FIELD FIELD. THE LAWSUIT WAS FILED LAST WEEK. IT CLAIMS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT WAS SEVERELY ABUSED BY OTHER STUDENTS AND THAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WAS AWARE BUT DID NOT INTERVENE. IT ALSO SAYS THE STUDENT NOW HAS SERIOUS EMOTIONAL ISSUES AND WILL NEED LIFE-LONG PSYCHIATRIC CARE. IN A STATEMENT, THE DISTRICT SAYS AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN LAUNCHED. HOWEVER, IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER THE STUDENTS INVOLVED WERE DISCIPLINED. YES, THE VICTIM’S ATTORNEY SENT A STATEMENT YESTERDAY EXPRESSING HIS DISGUST AND PRESSING FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, SAYING, QUOTE, THAT HIS ENTIRE CHILDHOOD HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM HIM BECAUSE SCHOOL AND DISTRICT OFFICIALS COULDN’T BE BOTHER TO DO THEIR JOBS AND KEEP HIM SAFE. NOW, IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW NEEDS HELP WITH A BULLYING SITUATION, YOU CAN TEXT THE WORD CONNECT TO 741741. THAT HELP IS AVAILABLE 24/7. IF YOU NEED FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL SUPPORT, THE WINSTON-SALEM FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD IS CHANGING THE WAY IT BEGINS ITS MEETINGS. AS WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED, THE NON-PROFIT RELIGION FREEDOM FOUNDATION REQUESTED THE BOARD TO STOP OPENING ITS MEETINGS WITH A CHRISTIAN PRAYER. THIS WAS AFTER A PARENT REACHED OUT TO THE GROUP WITH CONCERNS. THE SCHOOL BOARD SAID IN A STATEMENT, QUOTE, WHILE THE BOARD DOES NOT AGREE THAT ITS PRACTICE OF OPENING BOARD MEETINGS IN THE MANNER IT HAD DONE WAS UNCONSTITUTIONAL, UPON FURTHER CONSIDERATION, THE BOARD HAS CHOSEN TO USE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS IN OPENING ITS PUBLIC MEETINGS, END OF QUOTE. SO NOW THE BOARD WILL HAVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE, A SECULAR PRAYER. THE READING OF A MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OR SOME OTHER MEANS OF BEGINNING THE MEETING.
