UNITED STATES – The unemployment rate for American college graduates has risen over the past year and now stands at 12% for students with bachelor’s degrees.
The current unemployment rate is four points higher than a year ago.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, economists explain that job seekers are competing with more people for the same position compared to last year.
It could also be an indicator of a weakening economy if college graduates have a harder time finding jobs this summer.
According to the Montana Department of Labor and Industry 2022 Montana Postsecondary Workforce Report, Nearly 75% of Montana postsecondary institution graduates work in Montana at some point within 10 years of graduation. Most graduates work in industries associated with their degree, which is likely to be a career in healthcare and education.
Speaking about jobs available in 2022, Governor Greg Gianforte announced that 515 new apprentices have been added to Montana’s registered apprenticeship program.
Montana Labor and Industry Commissioner Laurie Esau said that one year after graduation, average salaries for people who competed in apprenticeships are more than double those of graduates from other institutions.
Esau also said nearly half of all job growth in Montana over the next 10 years will come from apprenticeship occupations.
