Governor Glenn Youngkin announced last week that Virginia has been ranked as the “Best State in America for Business” by JOBsNews. The annual ranking measures all 50 states on 128 different metrics across 10 key competitiveness categories to determine which states are delivering most effectively on the things that matter most to businesses.
“When a company chooses to invest and grow in Virginia, we promise world-class talent, infrastructure, energy solutions and a business-friendly environment. Our administration has facilitated waves of economic investment and business expansions to reinvigorate growth and opportunity across Virginia. The Commonwealth has experienced record job growth and welcomed businesses that have committed more than $74 billion in capital investments from major corporations like Amazon Web Services, The LEGO Group, Raytheon and Boeing, along with major expansions from others like Hilton, Northrop Grumman and Framatome.” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Economic development is a team sport, and Virginia has made great strides in business-friendly locations, workforce development, regulatory reduction, infrastructure investment, and all of the energy solutions mentioned above. I am thrilled that our great Commonwealth has been named America’s Best State for Business.”
Employers can tap into that talent at Mary Washington by partnering with the Career and Professional Development Center. Positions can be posted and promoted directly to students. Employers can also connect at career fairs each semester. Registration for the upcoming Job Fair on September 26 is now open.
Another example is The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP), based at UMW for the region, which offers free, online, self-paced training to help employers design high-quality internship experiences for students. Employers who complete the training and meet other eligibility criteria may also qualify for the V-TOP Matching Fund Program, which provides matching funds and/or staffing services to create or expand an internship program. Fredericksburg-area Region 6 is a leader in qualified employers for the V-TOP Matching Fund Program.
“V-TOP is a prime example of why Virginia has earned this distinction. By making it easier for employers and students to participate in paid internships and other workplace learning opportunities, we are demonstrating our commitment to developing and retaining a skilled workforce.” saying Rappahannock Collaborative Work-Learning Program Director Antoinette Carter Jenkins.
Virginia’s top-tier talent base creates a world-class labor pool ready to meet the needs of businesses. The Virginia Talent Acceleration Program, ranked the #1 Customized Workforce Training Program in the U.S. by Business Facilities in 2023 and 2024, and Virginia’s landmark Tech Talent Investment Program are helping Virginia build the workforce of the future. Virginia is racing to win with more than $550 million funded for site development to accelerate construction and deepen the inventory of ready-to-go sites for employers before they come to Virginia. Site readiness has been the deciding factor for numerous recent major wins for Virginia, including the LEGO Group.
“With top talent from top-ranked universities, a strong supply chain infrastructure, and a favorable business climate, Virginia has the perfect combination to make it a clear choice for business investment. I am delighted that JOBsNews has recognized the tremendous efforts on many fronts that make Virginia the best state in the U.S. for business.” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick.
