Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly universities, polytechnics and colleges of education (CoE), have decided on the minimum admissible scores, formerly known as “cut-off marks”, for the 2024 admissions cycle.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that while institutions are free to admit students based on the minimum scores they submit to JAMB, no institution can admit any candidate with a score below 140. This benchmark was endorsed by all stakeholders at the 2024 Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
Similarly, polytechnics and colleges of education (CoE) are not allowed to admit candidates with a score below 100, as also approved at the Policy Meeting.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that the minimum marks were determined by institutions, not JAMB. He added that a fee of N2000 was also set for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME).
Professor Oloyede maintained that the Central Admissions Processing System (CJOBsNewsS) remains the sole platform for admissions, stressing that institutions violating admissions processes, particularly those bypassing CJOBsNewsS, will be sanctioned. He insisted that admissions conducted outside the CJOBsNewsS platform are illegal and no longer sustainable.
