Pacific University is paving the way to a successful college and career by implementing an innovative program that provides guaranteed admission to graduate studies at the same time as admission to undergraduate studies.
As part of the Pacific Priority program, guaranteed admission to graduate school allows students to “reserve a spot” in a University of the Pacific graduate program before even beginning their first year of college.
Entering undergraduate students may apply to graduate school as soon as they commit to Pacific, and current undergraduates and transfer students may apply as juniors. Students are guaranteed a spot in the graduate program of their choice, provided they meet specific academic and admission requirements throughout their undergraduate studies.
The program is now available to students entering Pacific in 2024-2025 and will also be available to current Pacific undergraduate students.
The guarantee applies to 10 different graduate programs, including three doctoral programs, four disciplines in health professions, and three master’s programs in education:
• Doctor of Occupational Therapy
• Doctor of Optometry
• Doctor of Physiotherapy
• Master of Science in Athletic Training
• Master in Business Administration
• Master of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership
• Master of Social Work
• Master of Education
• Master of Arts in Teaching
• Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology
While many Pacific Priority students choose to begin graduate classes upon completion of their undergraduate studies, some programs allow for accelerated dual admission or allow students to take graduate classes during their fourth year of college. Some programs also allow students to take a break between graduation and the start of graduate school.
“Students often choose Pacific with a clear purpose. Many are considering a career in healthcare or education, and the Pacific Priority program offers them a clear path to achieve those goals,” said Jenny Coyle, president of Pacific University. “Our students are passionate about serving their communities and helping others through their careers, and we are here to empower them in that vision.”
Approximately 13% of all University of the Pacific alumni have at least two college degrees, most in the fields of education and health professions.
The Pacific Priority program also includes the university’s long-standing four-year graduation guarantee. And it features a similar two-year graduation guarantee, assuring transfer students who have earned associate degrees from schools in Oregon, Washington, California or Hawaii the opportunity to graduate in two years for most degree programs.
Both the four-year and two-year graduation guarantees ensure that Pacific will offer all courses required to graduate within those periods. If the university does not offer a required course, Pacific will authorize a substitute, waive the requirement, or cover the tuition costs to take the required course(s) at Pacific the next semester in which they are offered.
“College is an investment for our students and their families, and they want to know that it will pay off,” said Sarah Phillips, interim vice president for enrollment management and student affairs. “These programs ensure students will be able to graduate on time and have a direct path to the next step in their lives.”
