City Colleges of Chicago has created a new pathway for people interested in working in the hospitality industry, and those who complete it are guaranteed a job interview with industry partners.
Chicago—(February 12, 2024) – City Colleges of Chicago, in collaboration with the Illinois Restaurant Association Foundation, will launch a new educational program aimed at supporting those who wish to work in the hospitality industry.
The program called, Hospitality course for job preparation and certifications The course will begin from 9 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, March 12 through April 25, 2024. The cost of the class is *$525 and the program is held, in person, at the Arturo Velasquez Institute (AVI), 2800 S. Western Avenue in Chicago. AVI is the satellite campus of Richard J. Daley College.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for six weeks. Participants who complete the course will be guaranteed a job interview with hospitality partners and can prepare to earn these industry certifications:
- Food handler
- Food allergen
- Alcohol service
“The classes provide the skills needed to land a job in the hospitality industry and earn essential professional certifications,” said Janine Janosky, president of Richard J. Daley College. “The courses are prepared and taught by industry experts, and I encourage anyone interested in a career in hospitality to take advantage of this quality program.”

6-week classes include:
- Exploring the restaurant industry
- Job training and soft skills preparation
- Review of food handling and safety techniques.
- Earn up to 4 hospitality certifications after successfully passing the required tests
All materials will be provided to prepare students to take the National Restaurant Industry SERVSAFE Food Handler, Food Allergen, and Alcohol Service exams. Participants must be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol in the state of Illinois.
