Noida: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday said self-styled godman Surajpal alias Bhole Baba should extend financial help to the families of Hathras stampede victims.
The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment also said that the Uttar Pradesh government should provide employment to one person from each of the victims’ families.
A total of 121 people, mostly women, were killed and 31 injured in the stampede at preacher Bhole Baba’s satsang in Hathras on July 3. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a monetary assistance of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
In a post on ‘X’ after visiting Hathras, Athawale said he paid homage to the dead and said he met the injured and enquired about their health.
“Today, during a meeting in Navipur, Hathras, I met the family members of the victim, paid homage to them and assured them of all possible help. The RPI demands that one person from the victim’s family be given a government job,” said the RPI (Athawale) president in X.

“The families of the Hathras accident victims must be given financial assistance by the organiser Baba. We demand that the state government should provide a job to one person from each family of the 121 Hathras accident victims,” Athawale said.
So far, nine people, including the event’s main organiser and fundraiser Devprakash Madhukar, have been arrested in connection with the case.
